A Birthday Party!!!

Eric and I decided that this year was a good year for a birthday party for Eve.  More than just the "family parties" we have for her every year.  We wanted her to get to do something special with some of her friends.  I was VERY happy with what we chose.  Eve loved it.  Her 4th birthday was spent at Gymnastics Gold with some of her favorite friends: Ella Kate, Josiah, Miley, Avery Jones, Lydia Hoese, Sarah Humphrey, and Katie Mae Williams.  It was a great day!  Here are a few pics...

4 years ago today...

Eric and I were welcoming our precious baby girl, Eve, into the world.  Our lives would never be the same after that day.  This 8lb 4oz bundle came packing a punch :)  She had so much personality, even as an infant.

After consuming her 1st bday cake, we sent her to the sink at Mimi and Poppa's house.

Second Birthday

A 3rd Birthday accomplishment!!

My Eve-a-roo.  4 years old.

Some of my favorite 4-year-old "Eve-isms":
*"Oh, goody goody goody!"
*"Think you can handle it?"
*"Sure thing!"
*"These are the best ______ I never had!"
*"Actually...."  She uses this word often and accurately :)
*"That's cool!"
*"This is RIDICULOUS!"  One of her favorite words for a long time, now!

Some things Eve has said recently in conversation:
*"I used to be your Sue-za-roo when I was three, but now I'm FOUR!"
*"Mom's head is short.  Daddy's head is bigger than mom's shorty head!" (Dad appreciates that, Eve!)
*"I NEVER like a wedgie!"  Directed at Yaya, who loves to give Eve wedgies!
*Eric and Eve were talking about heaven and how great it would be to go there.  Eve realizes what they are talking about and says, "You can't DIE me!!  I just want Jesus to see me where I live and not die.  I like to stay living here."
*"I have two buddies named Coleman and Daddy!"  :)

Suebiddy.... you make me laugh.  You have been a precious addition to our family.  You are an awesome sister, and you love your sisters and brother more than I could have hoped for.  You are smart.  You have a massive vocabulary that consists of a lot of 3 and 4 syllable words that you have made up yourself.  You LOVE horses.  You have just mastered the forward roll, and are so excited about having a Gymnastics Birthday Party on Saturday.  You are head-to-toe girly...from bows and braids to necklaces, earrings, and fingernail polish.  You prefer to only wear "spinny skirts or dresses" and hate to wear jeans or shorts.  You have a beautiful heart...Mommy and Daddy love to see you make the right choice.  Just last night at Chuck-E-Cheese, you wanted to give some of your tokens to a little girl that didn't have any.  Sharing like Jesus.  You love your family, and you love doing things "as a family".  You have told mommy and daddy that when we get a new house one day, you want a Dalmatian.  You are a big, happy, fun-loving girl.  You have never met a stranger.  I pray you allow Jesus to use that huge personality He gave you.  You were put on this Earth for a SPECIFIC reason.  You are a world-changer.  I am so blessed to be your mama.

Daddy's Gone...

Daddy's been on a mission trip this week to Costa Rica with a team of youth.  They left last Sunday am and will be coming home this Sunday afternoon.  Since he's been gone, things have been tough around here.  Ellie has started to pitch mini-fits and is hitting her sisters when she doesn't get what she wants (fun stage!), Clara has been very smiley and happy, but is not great at obeying.  Eve has been a pretty big helper... but today, after her spanking for not obeying, she told me she was so sorry and then bursted out in tears saying, "i just miss daddy so much!  I am just so sad that it is going to be a lot of days before we see him again.  He left.  He's gone.  I miss him so much!"  She totally had the fake-cry going, but the words were so precious and heart felt that I wanted to believe her.  :)  While daddy has been gone this week, Coleman has practically mastered sitting up unassisted AND has sprouted his first tooth.  I leave you with a few pics of THE cutest 4 kids I have ever seen...

AMIGOS

We have two restaurants that we frequent every week.  Seriously.  With all 4 of our kids.  Eric and I insist on maintaining a somewhat-normal life, while raising 4 youngins :)  Those two places are Monterrey and Fujiyama.  We have our trips down to a science.  We take turns feeding twins, ordering food, and making sure Coleman has what he needs all while STILL getting to enjoy a meal out!  It's great.  This was a cute conversation we had with Eve at our last mexican meal...

Eve: Daddy, why do you call all of the cooker-boys 'amigo' and not a name like Eric or daddy or something?
Daddy (laughing):  You're right Eve, I should find out what their names are.  Do you know what 'amigo' means?
Eve: No Sir.
Daddy:  'amigo' means 'friend'.  So when daddy calls the boys 'amigo' it's like I'm saying, "friend, can I have some more chips?'
Eve: But those cooker boys aren't your friends... ARE they daddy?  Are they REALLY your friends?"

a never-ending sound....

I have NEVER appreciated quiet as much as I do now...with 4 kids.  Not just any 4 kids, but ERIC LAIRSEY'S 4 kids :).  They are ALL talkers.  Not one quiet or shy one in the bunch.  Different, but all loud and noisy.

We all know Eve to be a non-stop rambler, singer, and story-teller.  I love to watch her imagination work...but sometimes I wish I could JUST watch it and not hear it.  She is constantly making up words and taking phrases from movies and songs and things she hears people say to go on and on and on about this thing you "just HAVE to hear about!  you wont believe it!"  One day I heard Ellie cry out from the other room so I immediately think Eve has done something to cause it.  I walked in the room and said, "Eve, is everything alright?  Why is Ellie crying?"  She calmly looks at me and says, "Oh yea,  mom.  She's fine.  I was just sacrificing her."  Hmmm.  No wonder Ellie wanted out!  I never asked Eve what "sacrificing her" meant... wish I would have.  I wish I could have a video camera on this kid at all times of the day and night!  She is pretty hilarious, without even trying.  The things her mind comes up with are so far-fetched and random.  Last night, Eric was finishing up his yard work and getting ready to come inside.  Eve met him at the door and said, "I'm gonna walk away.  You knock on the door and ask if you can come in.  I will let you."  A few seconds later, Eric knocks at the door and Eve runs to it.  "Hello, sir.  I'm Eve.  What's your name?" "My name is Eric, may I come in?"  "Nice to meet ya.  You can come in and be our daddy because our daddy died."

Clara, Clara, Clara.  This girl is LOUD.  She has a squeal/shriek that pierces your ears.  Seriously.  But even when she is not fussing, she is loud.  She loves to sing, and she jabbers a lot.  If she cant find Ellie, she will wander the house calling for "eh-yah" (ellie).  Clara LOVES Coleman "man man".  She wants to give him a pacy (which he doesn't like) and pat his head and give him kisses.  Sweet.  She is quick to let you know when you have done something she doesn't like, and gives you a glare like I have never seen before.  She and Ellie have lots and lots of conversations and giggles.  So cute.

Ellie is typically thought (by outsiders) to be calm and quiet.  She is not.  She is more reserved and laid back than Eve and Clara, but she is definitely not quiet.  She is a studier.  When she has surveyed her surroundings and discovered that it is a safe/happy place for her, she comes out of her shell.  And jabbers all day long.  She loves to make Clara laugh by taking Clara's pacy or toy and running away. They like to grab at each others bellies and give hugs and kisses to each other.  Ellie is saying a LOT of words: bye, hey, Eve, Man Man, Dada, Mama, sues (shoes), juice, teeeee (teeth), sit, eat, doggie, no, Eh-ya (Clara), be-yee (belly), nigh nigh, i yuuu you (while waving her hand like she's turning a door knob means I love you).  This is not nearly the vocabulary Eve had at 18 months, but because the twins are preemies, this is considered an awesome word list!  Clara will say most of these also, but Ellie is more vocal.  Ellie doesn't really love to sing, but does love to dance and hum along.

Coleman.  My dream baby, but not even he is quiet.  He "talks" more than any of my girls did this young.  He loves to make cooing sounds and giggles to anyone and everyone.  He will lay on the floor all by himself and look around the room making all the noise he can... not crying or fussing, just talking.  I think he is telling me that I'd better get ready for all of the chats he's gonna have with his dad and me... I am excited about that.

The combination of these four precious personalities is going to make for a fun and action-packed 18 years or so while they are growing up with us.  During those years, I pray that I can enjoy and appreciate the banging, clanging, and jabbering while still getting to steal away every once in a while for a quiet van ride all to myself :)

some things are just IMPOSSIBLE with 4 little kids...

one of those things is getting a good picture with everyone's "best" face.  Lauren graciously agreed to go with me and the 4 kiddos today to get some pics made.  Eve is turning 4 next month, I have very few good pics of Coleman, and only 2 decent ones of them all together... so all of that turned into a need to have them done TODAY :).  Despite the fact that Ellie has a bruise on her cheek, Clara has a healing wound on her forehead, and Eve has had an allergic reaction outbreak on her face, I am in LOVE with the group shot.  It really showcases their personalities well.

Clara (18 months) is sticking her tongue out and being cute, Ellie (18 months) is sitting nervously and very unsure about what is going on, Coleman (5 months) is going with the flow and oh-so-happy, and Eve (almost 4) is a goof ball :)   I love that they are all so different!  Makes our life SO interesting.

Here are some of Man-Man's best pictures.  He was super smiley and VERY easy to photograph.  I fell in love with lots of his poses, but had to settle on these 3.

Eve was super chatty today (like always) and did a pretty good job looking at the camera and giving an EXTREMELY cheesy face.  I had to "reset" her by occasionally telling her to make a mad face, then smile like she was riding a horse with MiMi.  When it was not her turn to be photographed, she was begging for every snack I brought, getting all of the props out of the cabinets, and arranging every rocking chair, stool, and block in a straight line and ordering the stuffed animals to stay in the chairs until she told them they could get up :).

Clara and Ellie were NOT fun today.  I used the double stroller and some chairs to keep everyone "locked in" our little photo room.  Clara was constantly looking for an escape, pitching loud and frequent fits when I pulled her away or tried to distract her.  Ellie clung to me like glue.  She would ONLY sit in the rocking chair for a few seconds if I was giving her bites of cinnamon muffin between each picture.  No smiles.  That was out of the question.  I was lucky if I was able to get a shot without a pacy and silky :).  But we tried, and I am satisfied with the picture I got of all 4 of them.  It's just a good thing I didn't need one of her by herself ... smiling!!
